[HKIAIA News] To deepen industry-education integration and strengthen the connection between high-calibre innovative talent development and industry practice, the Hong Kong Information and Artificial Intelligence Association ("HKIAIA") organised a visit for university student representatives to Tencent Binhai Building, Tencent's global headquarters, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on 18 August. Through technology showcases, corporate culture exchanges and campus recruitment sharing, the visit enabled students to gain a better understanding of digital industry trends, the talent needs of technology companies and career pathways, while creating a practical platform for engagement between universities and the technology sector.
Experiencing Digital Innovation: Exploring Diverse Applications of AI
Led by Tencent's corporate guide, the delegation first visited Tencent Binhai Hall, where students learned about the "Connected Building" concept, in which the physical architecture reflects the connectivity of the internet, and explored a range of Tencent's digital technology innovations. These included a full-motion flight simulator visual system designed to recreate real flight environments, a high-precision digital reconstruction of the Dunhuang Grottoes, and Tencent's AI-powered Tianlai intelligent noise-reduction technology. The visit gave students a closer look at the practical application of digital twins and artificial intelligence in cultural heritage preservation, simulation, and audio-video processing, and helped them understand how digital technologies are increasingly integrated across different industry scenarios.
The delegation then visited the corporate history exhibition, where students reviewed Tencent's development and technological evolution since its founding in 1998. Through the corporate video and on-site presentation, they gained further insight into how internet technology companies approach product innovation, technological iteration and social value, while learning about Tencent's corporate culture centred on "Users First, Tech for Good."

Strengthening University-Industry Engagement: Talent Needs and Career Pathways
Following the tour, the programme continued in a meeting room, where Ms Lin Shiyang from Tencent's HR team delivered a session on campus recruitment and corporate culture. She introduced Tencent's talent selection criteria, campus recruitment process and distinctive "Huoshui" culture, and discussed topics of particular interest to university students, including professional skills development, self-improvement and career planning. The face-to-face exchange gave students a clearer understanding of talent selection criteria, role-specific competency expectations and career pathways within technology companies, providing practical reference for their academic development, capability building and future internship and employment planning.

Connecting Industry Resources: Advancing University-Industry Collaboration
The visit concluded with active discussion and exchange. Through technology demonstrations, corporate culture sharing and direct engagement with Tencent's HR team, students gained first-hand exposure to innovation practices within the internet and AI sectors. The programme deepened their understanding of the digital ecosystem, technology applications and corporate talent requirements, while providing more concrete reference for academic development, skills enhancement and future career planning.

Looking ahead, the Hong Kong Information and Artificial Intelligence Association will continue to serve as a bridge connecting universities, research institutions and technology companies. With a focus on developing high-calibre innovative talent, HKIAIA will continue to organise company visits, technical exchanges, talent engagement and industry-academia-research collaboration, helping students understand emerging industry trends and employer needs, strengthen their innovation and practical capabilities, and better align talent development with industry demand. Through these efforts, the Association aims to bring together more resources and opportunities for young talent in artificial intelligence and digital technology across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
